Katie Schide
A world-class trail runner, Katie Schide blends power with elegance and has been among the leading female athletes on the international stage in recent years. Her journey as a sports enthusiast began at a young age, actively engaging in various athletic endeavors during her school years, notably focusing on field hockey. Her passion for the outdoors was ignited by her father, with whom she embarked on mountain explorations, fostering a deep appreciation for nature and instilling a love for outdoor activities.
The deep connection with the mountains and the outdoors has always been at her heart. In 2016, Katie met local trail runner Germain Grangier in France. Recognizing her talent in trail running, Germain encouraged her to pursue structured training. This relationship became a pivotal turning point in Katie's trail running career. Katie recalled, "Having that support and belief from someone else gave me an extra level of motivation and confidence to take trail running a little more seriously and set bigger goals for myself. He's someone who continues to support me every day and I'm grateful that he encouraged me to believe in myself from the very beginning."
Katie’s training intensity is remarkable. In preparation for the 2024 Western States 100, she logged approximately 210 kilometers of running and 6,100 meters of elevation gain per week. This systematic, data-driven approach to training has equipped her with the elite capability to tackle races of varying distances and terrains.
From an outdoor enthusiast to a world-class professional athlete, her journey is fueled by passion and talent, sustained through structured and high-intensity training, and strengthened by the unwavering support, companionship, encouragement, and love of those around her.
